1,6-Hexanediol is an organic compound with the formula (CH2CH2CH2OH)2. It is a colorless, water-soluble solid.

Applications of 1,6-Hexanediol

Industrial manufacture of polyester and polyurethane frequently uses 1,6-hexanediol. Its relatively lengthy hydrocarbon chain can help polyesters become more rigid and flexible. It is employed as a chain extender in polyurethanes, and the modified polyurethane produced has a low glass transition temperature and a high resistance to hydrolysis. As a crosslinking agent, it is an intermediary to acrylics, such as hexanediol diacrylate.
